• 3.3.2 Management of Development Drill Holes
The development drill holes required at the Trapper Mine occur in two different
kinds of areas, i.e., areas where topsoil has already been salvaged for mining
activities and areas where topsoil has not yet been salvaged. As previously
stated, all development drilling is contained within the permit area.
Sealing, casing and the appropriate management of development drill holes will be
conducted to minimize surface disturbance and effects upon the hydrology. Also,
appropriate control of the drilling area will be exercised to prevent harm to man
or wildlife.
Drill holes may occasionally be selected to be maintained as ground water moni-
toring wells. In such instances, the holes will be cased to avoid intermingling
of aquifers and to assure selective surveilance of the aquifer in question. The
casing will be capped and marked as an environmental monitoring site. Water will
not be used from such sites except for data gathering or unless approved by the
State of Colorado. Wells will not be transferred without proper approval of the
regulatory authority.
3.3.2.1 Drill Sites in Areas Where Topsoil Has Not Been Salvaged
Development drilling outside of the area where topsoil has been salvaged in
advance of mining will be subject to special criteria. Topsoil will be removed
from the drill sites prior to drilling. Topsoil will also be salvaged prior to
any road cuts or fills. Excavation and dozer work will be kept to a minimum and
reasonable effort will be made to use existing roads and locate new roads and
drill sites in areas where major disturbance is not required. New roads will be
built according to light-duty road specifications. Light-duty road specifica-
cions are adequate because is is anticipated that any new roads required for
development drilling will be temporary, receive minor volumes of traffic, and for
•
3-2+
REVISED FEB 1 I'M
