April 21, 2015 C- 1981 - 028 /Keenesburg Strip Mine TNL
DRMS accompanied Mr. Kipp to four of the six wells sampled semi - annually. As laid out by the
ground water sampling program, the sampling order was determined by the previous sampling event
going from lowest to greatest level of salinity. The four wells observed in order of sampling
included; FPW, AMW -1, DH -96, and DH -122. This order is consistent with the last sampling event.
The observed casings listed above appeared to be in good condition.
The sampling protocol observed was consistent with the subsurface water monitoring protocol
outlined in the permit. Water levels are consistently measured from the top of casing on the north
side of the casing. Field parameters recorded in the field were consistent with the range reported to
the Division in the 2014 Annual Hydrology Report. The multi -meter used to measure the field
parameters was calibrated the morning of the sampling event. Field parameters collected included
temperature, pH, and electrical conductivity. Both field parameters and samples sent to the lab for
analysis were collected via bailer. A set of parameters was obtained before and after the well purge.
Three casing volumes were pumped from the wells based on the static water level. The water
pumped was calculated with the following equation:
(Total depth of the well — static water level X gallons per foot X 3) / gallons per minute pumped.
Monitoring well FPW (shown in photos 4 and 5) was pumped for approximately 15 minutes prior to
sample collection, in accordance with this calculation as shown below.
FPW
(61 ft total depth — 12.7 ft static water level X 2.61 gallons per ft (based on an 8" casing) X 3) / 25
gpm = 15.12 minutes
Samples were refrigerated shortly after collection and were to be transported to the lab on ice later
the same day.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 7
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 5
