ADAMSCOUNTY
q8EMEMMM&__
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: 2014 112c Annual Report — Nyholt Pit (aka Mann), Permit # M- 1982 -147
Dear DRMS:
Parks & Open Space Department
Adams County Regional Park
9755 Henderson Road
Brighton, CO 80601
PHONE 303.637.8000
FAx 303.637.8015
www.adcogov.org
April 15, 2015
The Nyholt (aka Mann) Pit was mined for several years by Mobile Pre -Mix / Lafarge. Lafarge ceased mining
operations in December of 2009. Adams County Parks accepted succession of operator in December of 2009 and
will continue to control noxious weeds at the site, establish native grasses and complete required site reclamation.
We have also been working to haul off approximately 190,000 tons of already processed materials from the site.
In March and April of 2014, a contractor working for Adams County made warranty repairs to Lake #2 (enlarged the
existing buttress). This repair was successful. Consequently a modified 45 -day liner re -test was performed for the
liner that was breached and repaired following the installation of the enlarged buttress. A liner test was initiated on
June 2, 2014 and was concluded on July 17, 2104. A report was submitted to the State of Colorado - Division of
Water Resources in early August of 2014. The test data provided by Tetra Tech indicated that the reservoir (Lake #2)
had been lined to the design standard referenced in the 1999 State Engineer Guidelines for Lining Criteria for
Gravel Pits. The State gave formal approval via a letter certifying the liner integrity on August 12, 2014.
On September 12 and 13 of 2013 the mining site experienced fairly extensive sheet flooding which caused erosion
damage to the banks of the reservoirs. Although the liners weren't significantly damaged, repairs to the
embankments are currently being finalized. During the engineering process it was determined that armoring affected
areas would be desirable. To this end, Adams County submitted plans to the Division through a Technical Revision
(TR) process in October of 2014. The TR was accepted by the DRMS on November 5, 2014. Adams County is
currently in the process of finalizing the repairs and armoring. A 30 -day modified liner test for the State of Colorado
(Division of Water Resources) for Lake #1 is currently being completed. The repair work will be reported in the
2015 annual report next year. Additional information can be provided upon request.
Enclosed is a map illustrating site work, weed mitigation and other work that was completed in the 2014 calendar
year. Additionally, a check is enclosed in the amount of $791.00 (Check No. 675537) intended to cover the annual
fee for the 2013 reporting period.
Sincerely,
Nathan Mosley!Parks Land
Adams County en pace Department
Enclosures: (3) 112c Report / Site Map / Check No. 675537
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Eva J.
