Since the operation will only be active for 6 months per year average, therefore, the full gold mining
operation will take approximately 24 years. The gravel sales will be concurrent with gold mine
operation.
Section 7.0. Sediment Control System for Operation
The permit area is basically divided into 4 mining areas, as well as the wash plant area and the upper
ponds near the Westerman Ditch. The eastern and western areas contains significant pre -law
disturbance. The southern area primarily drains to the water holding ponds and settling pond. Pre -law
areas have no new controls since the porous nature of the gravel provides good sediment control, since
any runoff seeps in the ground from these areas.
There are other numerous depressions piles and valleys which trap runoff and infiltrate it into the
ground. Due to extreme porous nature of the gravel the numerous depressions and the 2 main ponds
present in this area, there has never been a problem with disturbed area runoff leaving the site. All runoff
from this area is trapped in the depressions. For this reason, no new collection ditches are planned.
Gravel berms of 3 feet height will be placed at the downhill portion of all mining areas, if the areas are
not trapped by the pit excavations themselves. Any water from the south portion of the permit will flow
down the access road to the plant area, where this flow will be directed into the sediment pond, as shown
on Map C -2. No new sediment control facilities are planned for the permit area. There are major areas of
pre -mine hydraulic mine disturbance outside the depression area that do drain off site but they have
nothing to do with the current operation and are not collected by the ditches or the depression area. Also,
these areas consist of large cobbly material that does not cause any issues with off site sediment
delivery. All of the disturbance related to this mine either drains to the sediment pond or the depression
areas or are porous enough as to not create runoff.
This Settling Pond below the wash plant pond has a surface area of 1500 square feet and will reach a
depth of 20 -30 feet at a grade of 2.011:1.OV. The pond will be completely incised in original ground. No
dam will be built. There will be no discharge from the pond since the drainage areas are so porous and
Sullivan Aggregate Pit March 2015 D -9
