Peabody Sage Creek Mine July 2014
SL -3 Phase 111 Bond Release Request
* In the cumulative presence data from 2 m x 50 m samples associated with the
collection of a statistically adequate reclaimed area sample (based on the cover samples),
and including alfalfa and /or cicer milkvetch, included in seed mixes as nitrogen— fixers
and protein forage.
If the total cumulative number of native species in the reclamation sampling exceeds the average
number of native species per 100 sq.m. using weight averaged reference area sampling, then Test
D is passed.
2010 Species Diversity Success Evaluation
Assessing Mandatory Test A (no single species comprise greater than 60% relative cover), The
data (Table H -1, vegetation report in Attachment D) shows that the most abundant single species
in the BRB PSCM -I reclaimed area was intermediate wheatgrass with 45.1% relative first hit
cover which is below the 60% threshold value. Hence Mandatory Test A is passed.
To assess Alternative Test B, Total Species Density (probability- adjusted density standard), the
following test is calculated for 2010 BRB PSCM -I data (Table H -2, vegetation report in
Attachment D):
Mean Species density (area - weighted from the reference areas) = 31.5 species /100
sq.m.
Mean Reference Area Species Density — 1.15 s = 31.5 —1.15 (5.4) = 25.31
Mean total species density in the 2010 BRB PSCM -I Phase III sample = 18.67
Mean total species density is less than the standard. Hence, Alternative Species Density Test B
for BRB PSCM -I Phase III in 2010 is NOT passed.
Regarding Alternative Test C, the similarity index between the lifeform species density values for
the prescribed lifeforms for 2010 BRB PSCM -I and the Mean Species density (Area - weighted) in
20
