COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
April 1, 2015
Mr. John Hamrick
Cotter Corporation
P.O. Box 1750
Canon City, CO 81215
RE: Schwartzwalder Mine; DRMS File No. M- 1977 -300; Technical Revision (TR -22)
Dear Mr. Hamrick,
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) received Technical Revision - 22 for
the above referenced operation on March 25, 2015. The decision date for this Technical Revision
is April 24, 2015. The Division has reviewed the Technical Revision Application and has the
following comments:
The proposed grouting plan calls for re- boring and grouting boreholes which were drilled in
the Sump 10 Area in 2012. The existing boreholes have been identified as the source of water
seeping into the Sump 10 Area. Please indicate if water was seeping into this area prior to
drilling the boreholes in 2012. If so, please specify the approximate amount of water which
was inflowing into the sump.
2. The proposed grouting plan calls for grouting 19 holes in the first phase of the project. The
Operator has stated that after 2 -3 days, an inspection of the Sump 10 Area will be made to
determine the effectiveness of Phase 1 and that based on the results up to 19 additional holes
may be drilled and grouted. Please specify the criteria which will be used to determine if
Phase 1 of the grouting program is effective.
3. The Operator has stated that adverse impacts to Monitor Well 18 are not expected as a result
of installing the grout curtain. Please identify Monitor Well 18 on Figure 1: Proposed
Grouting Area.
4. Please commit to providing the Division with a copy of the grouting as -built report within 30
days after completion of the program.
of cOo
Q
N O'
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http: / /mining.state.co.us * *,
John W.
