Mix Concrete Plant. CPW supports the plan to store topsoil on the south end of the project area.
We would ask that if possible, to store topsoil along the southeastern project boundary to provide
an additional sound barrier and also limit extraction activities in the area that is closest to the
lek.
CPW will intensively monitor activity at the lek during the project, and if disturbances are noted
will make further mitigation suggestions to Kirkland Construction that may include: reduction of
extraction and processing activities before 9:00 am between March 15 - May 15, or other
appropriate measures.
The parcel lies above a portion of the Blue River designated as Gold Medal Waters, which are the
highest quality cold -water habitat. Erosion control measures should be taken during mining and
reclamation to protect the river from soil eroding from the pit and being introduced into the river
system, causing sedimentation. Increased sediment contribution to aquatic ecosystems has the
potential to impact the biological process of native and nonnative sport fish including feeding and
reproduction.
During mining, noxious weed control should take place. In addition, control and monitoring of
noxious weeds should take place during and after reclamation. Weed -free native seed mixes
should be used to reestablish the native gallery of grasses, forbs, and sagebrush currently found on
the landscape. CPW understands that Kirkland Construction has worked with Blue Valley Ranch in
the requirements for reclamation of the post construction site.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife appreciates the opportunity to comment on this project.
