The mine site is a reclaimed surface mine. <br />Minimal activity occurs on the site during the winter months. The weather was warm, cloudy with a misty rain <br />sporadically during the early part of the day. The ground was muddy at the time of the inspection. The snowpack <br />is mostly melted off, with south facing slopes often bare of snow. Snow was still present on the higher elevations <br />of the mine, in shadowed drainages and north facing slopes. No mine personnel remain on the mine site. The <br />inspector checked in with SCC staff in the Peabody Sage Creek Mine office. No mine personnel accompanied <br />the inspector during the inspection. <br />Observation of several portions of the mine; Ridgeline, Pond 017, Pond 009, Pond 015, and PM -1 drainage area. <br />and access road K were inaccessible due to ground conditions. <br />AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS: Records were verified in the Peabody Sage Creek Mine office. Records form <br />is included at the back of this report. <br />FISH and WILDLIFE — Rule 4.18: <br />A skunk was observed near the main access road gate east of Pond 006. Numerous animal tracks were <br />noted throughout the accessible areas of the mine. There was a dead salamander on the outslope of Pond 005. <br />Coyote scat and fresh tracks were noted in the higher elevations of 005 -E1 drainage. No coyote were seen this <br />inspection. Elk track and scat were observed throughout the site, but no elk were seen during the inspection. <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 <br />Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; <br />Diversions 4.05.4; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18: <br />Pond 006 was accessible and mostly free of ice. Pond 006 was discharging. Vegetation needs to be cleared from <br />the Pond 006 trash rack at the discharge riser.
