EXHIBIT B
SITE DESCRIPTION
COUNTY: Kit Carson
OPERATOR: Castle Rock Construction Co. of Colorado, LLC
1. The area designated within the pit limits is currently hilly rangeland used for
livestock grazing only.
2. Soils on the grass land are ridge top typical of Kit Carson County and are
classified as Cascajo soils and gravelly land.
I Topsoil is 4 -6 inches, silty -sandy M -L, CL type by the Unified Soil
Classification.
4. The soil beneath the overburden is gravelly sand which will be used as
dirt borrow material. The pit run material will be removed to a 10 -15' depth
from a easterly facing excavation.
5. Clumps of natural grasses including blue grama, buffalo grass and western
wheatgrass exist along with weedy vegetation.
6. The existing slopes vary in slope but are moderately steep at 2:1 or steeper.
The final slopes will be reclaimed to a condition of 4:1 or flatter.
7. Vertical pit walls will not be necessary.
8. The existing property drains in a northeasterly direction. After reclamation the
Pit will ultimately drain toward to the north and east (as the property does
currently) and ultimately to the South Platte River to the north.
9. There is an existing CDOT right of way fence that runs east -west on the north
edge of the pit limits. A temporary gate will be installed in this fence line
where the temporary access crosses.
10. The right of way fence is the property of CDOT with which the project
construction is under contract, including replacement of the existing fence. A
CDOT Access Permit has been applied for and initial approval is attached.
11. An underground fiber optic line runs parallel to the right of way fence and lies
inside of the CDOT right of way to the north of the pit limits and belongs to
Century Link. This is the only utility near the affected area.
12. There are no other fences or structures on or around the property.
