Martin Marietta Materials
Spec -Agg 2015 Annual Report
shifts in representative orientations of the observed discontinuity sets based on our evaluation of the new
data. As discussed above, joint set P -7 represents a new representative discontinuity orientation based
on a relatively tight clustering of joint measurements centered in a distinct orientation not well represented
by the previously recognized sets.
In the 2015 annual report, a total of nine (9) representative discontinuity sets were identified and analyzed
for the structural discontinuity analyses. Representative discontinuity orientations used for this annual
report are shown in Figure 7 and summarized in Table 1 below. Foliation F -1 and F -2 are slightly shifted
but in general in line with previous reports. Joint sets P -2 and P -6 were observed as dominant joint sets
in a relatively tight clustering of joint measurements in the Southern Expansion Area. Joint set P -7 was
again observed in the Southern Expansion Area. Only a few P -1 and P -5 measurements were observed
to change /shift the orientation. We have tailored our kinematic analyses to these observations, such that
joint sets that were not observed in a particular area are not considered in kinematic analyses for walls
that line those areas.
Table 1: Representative Discontinuity Orientations
Discontinuity Set
Representative Orientation (Dip /Dip Direction)
2013 Annual Report
2014 Annual Report
2015 Annual Report
F -1 (Foliation)
43 0/1820
33 0/170°
34 0/1700
F -2 (Foliation)
13 0/2240
22 0/2570
24 0/2500
F -3 (Foliation)
Not observed
Not observed
Not observed
P -1 (Joint)
74 0/172° (unchanged)
74 0/172° (unchanged)
74 0/1720 (unchanged)
P -2 (Joint)
55 0/0840
59 0/870
56 0/840
P -3 (Joint)
51 0/264°
68 0/2550
68 0/2560
P-4 (Joint)
67 0/301 ° (Main Pit)
670/3010
72 0/2990
P -5 (Joint)
Not observed
68 0/3540
68 0/3540 (unchanged)
P -6 (Joint)
66 °/051 ° (SEA)*
59 0/250
60 0/240
P -7 (Joint)
55 0/2130
63 0/2200
65 0/2150
" SEA = Southern Expansion Area
6.2 Slope Geometry
Wall orientations used in this report are based on the mine plan developed by Martin Marietta in
December, 2003 (Figure 2). As discussed in the 2013 annual report, we used the same wall orientations
for our analyses that have been used since the 2003 report; however, we added several additional wall
orientations and modified the wall designations slightly. The new and former wall designations, slope
angles, and slope dip directions used to represent the final quarry walls are presented in Table 2 below.
February 25, 2015 Page 9 Lachel & Associates, Inc.
Project 14364006 00 02015 All Rights Reserved
