Fall 2014 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mining Areas
3.0 TRAVERSES AND OBSERVATIONS IN THE SOD AND DRY FORK MINING
AREAS
A detailed discussion of observations associated with Traverses A -A' through J-J' (along with
accompanying Maps 1 and 2) is provided in this section. Several of the photographs obtained
during the fall 2014 field visit are included as figures in the text of this report. Where these images
have notable differences from previous photographs, the older image has been included for
comparison purposes. To reduce the overall size of this document, narrative text and photographs
for traverses where there have been no observable change are generally excluded.
Map 1 shows the outline of E -seam mine workings along with surface topography and other
surface features (including the named traverses). Map 2 shows the same area and detail as Map 1
(minus traverses) along with recently- active landslide and rockfall areas as delineated from aerial
photo research and field observations.
3.1 Traverses A -A' and B -B'
These traverses overlie portions of mined E -seam Longwall Panels E1, E2, and E3. As observed
during the spring 2013 field visit, many of the MDWs accessed via these traverses have been
reclaimed. Those MDWs that have not yet been reclaimed are the southernmost pads along
Traverse A -A' including E2- 51/52/54, E3 -51, and E3 -55 (other MDWs shown on Map 1 have been
reclaimed). Note that in this report, a designation similar to E2- 51/52/54 indicates one MDW pad
containing three drill holes. As denoted on Map 1, the surface and termination point of each drill
hole is shown by a small and large filled green circle, respectively, that are connected by a straight
green line.
No subsidence - related features were observed along either of these traverses during our fall 2014
field visit.
3.2 Traverse C -C'
This traverse follows the Dry Fork Road from Monument Dam (Minnesota Reservoir) eastward to
the road crossing of Deep Creek (see Maps 1 and 2). Several portions of this traverse parallel the
Dry Fork itself. Portions of this traverse are above mined E -seam Longwall Panels E 1 through E5
831 - 032.796 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
