Fall 2014 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mining Areas
moderate landslide and rockfall risk on Map 2. Future visits to this area will focus on potential
reactivation of this feature due to longwall mining activities. The E -seam overburden depth at this
location is about 800 feet.
Figure 7. Eastward panorama as viewed from MDW E5 -16 pad showing evidence of an apparent
historic slope failure (yellow arrow) on the east side of Poison Gulch opposite this pad.
3.7 Photographic Observation Point 2
This photographic comparison location (formerly Photographic Observation Point 13) was
established during the fall 2009 field visit along the traverse now known as Traverse F -F'
(approximately 500 feet southwest of point F). Overburden depth to the E -seam in this area is
about 680 feet. This location established two views; one looking northward toward the MDW E2-
27 pad and the other looking northeastward toward the MDW E2 -30.5 pad. Comparison photos
obtained during our fall 2014 field visit revealed no noticeable changes. Mining of this portion of
E -seam Longwall Panel E2 occurred in late 2010 and early 2011.
3.8 Photographic Observation Point 3
This photographic observation point is located on the MDW E4 -14 pad and established during the
spring 2013 field visit. This location provides east -to -south views up the Dry Fork drainage and
of an unnamed tributary above mined portions of E -seam Longwall Panel E4 and unmined portions
of E -seam Longwall Panels E5 and E6. A comparison of the recent images from this location to
those previously obtained finds no noticeable differences.
831 - 032.796 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
