New Horizon Mine
Two soil samples were taken in the area that was topsoiled during 2014. The
results are included in Attachment 1 of this report, and the locations are shown on
Map 4.
2. Topsoil
During 2014, 4.4 acres were topsoiled.
during the report year and Table 2 for
mine. Additionally, please see Figure 1
topsoiled during the report year.
3. Seeding
Please see Table 1 for topsoil moved
overall topsoil stockpile balance for the
and Map 4 which denotes the locations
NHN permanently seeded or planted 0 acres in 2014. Through the end of the year
2014, 0 acres have been reclaimed at NHN. A total of 0 seeded acres have been in
existence for greater than 10 years with 0 acres being in existence for 10 years or
less.
Table 3 shows the approved seed mixtures for the New Horizon Mine.
4. Soil Fertility Testing and Fertilizer Application
No fertilizing was completed because no permanent seeding has occurring on site;
therefore, no Soil Fertility Testing occurred in 2014.
F. WILDLIFE MONITORING
During 2014, topsoil and mining operations were within the 300 yard buffer zone of
active prairie dog colonies. Therefore, to mitigate potential disturbance to possible
burrowing owls, all prairie dog holes within the three remaining colonies were filled in
with hand shovels during February 2014. Map 5 shows three prairie dog colonies where
the mitigation work occurred. Prairie dog colony 3 was later impacted when topsoil
stripping was completed for Pond 002 during December 2014. Therefore, in the future,
colony 3 will no longer be included as a potential burrowing owl habitat.
G. INTERIM REVEGETATION REPORT
Interim vegetation monitoring did not occur at NHN in 2014. Future Interim Vegetation
Reports will be included as an attachment.
H. WEED MANAGEMENT
During 2014, approximately 8.6 acres were treated for noxious weeds by spot spraying.
Map 3 shows the general areas that were treated; however, the actual treatment sites were
small and random and thus too small to accurately depict on a map.
