New Horizon Mine
• Approximately 42 Bovine February 4, 2014 — February 15, 2014
The Reference Area, 6.3 acres:
• Approximately 42 bovine February 4, 2014 — February 15, 2014
Attachment 5 contains grazing allotment estimates. This form is copied
from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, National Range
& Pasture Handbook 1997. This worksheet serves as a guide for the
irrigated pasture sections of the permit for grazing and gives a general idea
of what forage is available. The properties are reviewed while grazing
activities are in progress. During the grazing operation a visual
determination is then made with the bovine owner, farm contractor, and or
New Horizon mine personnel to make sure the properties are being grazed
for maximum efficiency while minimizing damage to the fields. The
above referenced areas are depicted in Exhibit 2014 -8. Approximately 260
acres were grazed on within reclaimed lands within the New Horizon
permit boundary.
b. Irrigation
The CC Ditch Company commenced water deliveries on April 6, 2014,
with an approximately 50 percent flow. In the following days, the CC
Ditch Company ramped up and cut the water from 85 to 10 percent due to
a minor ditch repairs. The CC Ditch Company then resumed water
delivery at 75 percent operations on April 22, 2014. New Horizon Mine
began irrigation operations April 15, 2014. Water availability varied from
70 -100 percent over the course of the year. The CC Ditch Company
discontinued water delivery October 5, 2014.
c. Irrigated Pasture Yields
For 2014, the first cutting occurred from mid -June to mid -July. The
second cutting, which was extended by weather delays, occurred from
mid - August to mid - September. In general the fields were harvested from
west to east, after hay removal, the water was restarted on the individual
fields, west to east.
In 2014, the pasture yields first cutting varied from 1,163 lbs /acre to 2,945
lbs /acre with an average of 2,292 lbs /acre. The second cutting yields
varied from 1,593 lbs /acre to 2,7441bs /acre with an average yield of 2,115
lbs /acre. In contrast the reference area first cutting yielded 3,193 lbs /acre
and the second cutting yielded 2,371 lbs /acre.
For 2014, the cutting performance on the second cutting was
approximately 98 percent of the first cutting. Meanwhile, the Reference
Area second cutting performance was approximately 74 percent of the first
2014 Annual Reclamation Report Page 4
