4.0 SURFACE WATER
Trapper Mine monitored one stream site and nineteen active NPDES discharge sites during
2014. The stream site Flume Gulch (S -1) was sampled during June and September 2014 to
characterize spring flows at this location. Flow was observed at NPDES sites 001, 002, 011, 017,
018 and 020 in 2014. Sites 017 and 018 had flow only two and one times respectively during 2014.
Baseline stream site East Pyeatt (S3) is also NPDES site 011. Sites were monitored monthly
throughout the year. Sites NPDES 008, 009, 019, 021, 022, 023 and 024 did not discharge during
2014. Maps No. 2 -1 through 2 -3 show the locations of these surface -water sites.
4.1 SURFACE -WATER FLOW
The 2014 flow data tabulated in Appendix C in Table C -1 represents instantaneous
measurements associated with NPDES water - quality sampling. Recorded surface runoff was less in
2014 at the Trapper Mine even with the precipitation being above average.
Figures C -1 through C -3 present the instantaneous flows versus time for the Trapper NPDES
sites for 2014. There was flow during each of the monthly samples of 2014 at NPDES 001 except
for July and August samples. The high flow during sampling was only 71 and 110 gpm for NPDES
001 and 002 respectively in 2014. Surface flow at NPDES 011 was observed during most of the
year with a peak of 259 gpm on April 15 and at NPDES 017 during two of the monthly
measurements (see Figure C -2). Figure C -3 shows that NPDES 018 and 020 sites had one and six
flow events in 2014 respectively. This figure also shows that a peak flow of 179 gpm was observed
at NPDS Site 020 in 2014. A small flow existed for one of the monthly measuremnets in 2014 from
NPDES site 018.
Trapper Mining Company 4 -1
2014 Annual Report
