This deposit is between 1 -5 feet in depth. Mining on each ends of the pit will be kept to a slope of
7:1 to avoid erosion when flood waters enter or exit the pit area. A 15ft. buffer between the crest of the
7:1 slope and the fence lines along the upstream side of the pit will be implemented. This undisturbed
buffer of the creek bed would allow The City of Holyoke to have enough room within the permit
boundary to make repairs on the slope if a headcut or erosional feature develops in the creek bed. Due
to the make -up of the material being mined, and the slope, any head -cut should be minimal. Monitoring
of the slope will be done to ensure the smooth flow of water. Any headcuts that may migrate upstream
would not have a significant impact as there are no structures within the creek bed or on the creek
banks in the vicinity, upstream of the site.
