The
recommended seed mix provided by Blue Valley Ranch is a reasonable seed mix for the dry mountain
loam soils located at the construction site, if a native grass seed mix is desirable. The additional of the
ladak variety alfalfa to the mix is fine as long as it is not used for reclamation immediately adjacent to
nearby Hwy 9, as it would be likely to attract wildlife to the roadside. Blue flax could also be added if a
forb component is desired. I would also suggest that sheep fescue be either added to the mix in small
amounts, or be substituted for Indian ricegrass, due to its drought tolerance. Finally, intermediate
wheatgrass would also be a good addition due to its rapid establishment.
Thank you and please contact me with any additional questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mark Volt District Conservationist
USDA /NRCS
Att. — BVR Term Sheet
