DETAILED SITE INSPECTION OBSERVATIONS
Overall, it appears Colorado Quarries is following the approved mining and
reclamation plans. A new contract is needed with the BLM if mining is to
GENERAL COMPLIANCE
continue on BLM property.
The permit boundary is fenced. The entrance is gated and signed. A game
camera is hidden in the pile of rocks to the left of the gate. Topsoil is
SITE DEVELOPMENT
stockpiled and vegetated.
There is a south facing high wall approximately 30 -40 feet high within —50-
"'
100 yards of the permit boundary. One area to the west of the high wall
Z
g
OPERATIONAL PHASE
has been graded into a gentle slope possibly for reclamation. It does not
appear that the operation is currently mining BLM land.
Z
0
a
No recent reclamation is observed. However, an area near the high wall
:2
RECLAMATION STATUS
has been graded and sloped possibly in preparation for reclamation.
w
(TOPSOIL, ROADS, ETC.)
CC
Erosion and sedimentation did not appear to be an issue anywhere on site.
°-6
EROSION/ SEDIMENTATION
w
Z
2
Explosives are not used in this operation and were not observed on site
EXPLOSIVES
during the inspection.
The area is fenced to keep out the public, but the high wall edge was not
bermed or flagged from the top. Several pits and possible shafts occur
SAFETY
within the permit area. Some have a single post near them but they are not
clearly identified as a hazard.
The high wall appeared to have some issues that were evidenced by cracks
that were noticed 1 -2 feet behind the edge of the high wall that were at
least as deep as the topsoil. At the widest the cracks were 3 inches wide
ENGINEERING/ GEOLOGIC & STABILITY
and they were running parallel to the bench face. At the moment the
CONDITIONS
operator needs to be aware of the cracks due to the possibility of them
extending down through the rhyolite, which would be a safety hazard if
they got any bigger.
The DRMS mine Sign was posted. MSHA numbers are painted on the
OTHER LOCAL/ STATE/ FEDERAL REQ. &
equipment used for crushing material.
COMPLIANCE
