PERMIT #: M- 2000 -084
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ERR
INSPECTION DATE: September 16, 2014
OBSERVATIONS
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) conducted an inspection of the Chris Aaegeson Pit #2 (Permit
File No. M- 2000 -084), a Construction Material Limited Impact 110c Operation Reclamation Permit with 9.0 permitted
acres and an approved post - mining land use of Rangeland. The mine is located approximately 17.5 miles northeast of
Otis, Colorado. Elliott Russell, with the Division, inspected the site while Robert Frick and Rusty Reese, both with the
Washington County, accompanied it. This inspection was carried out as a part of the Division's normal monitoring
program.
At 10:00, the Division met Mr. Frick and Mr. Reese at the mine site entrance located a half of a mile east of CR ZZ, on
CR 55. At the time of the inspection it was hot, the weather was clear, and the ground was dry. The mine site
identification sign was observed at the entrance to the site and was in compliance with Rule 3.1.12(1). The permit
boundary was delineated by fence lines, along the east and north boundaries, and by metal t- posts, along the east and
south boundaries. There was no equipment on site at the time of the inspection.
The site is located along the ephemeral channel known as Rock Creek; at the time of the inspection this creek was not
flowing, but the site did contain some standing water from recent rain events. The site appears to have not been active for
quite some time and, after discussing this with Mr. Frick and Mr. Reese, the plan is for Washington County is to start
reclaiming the site in the next few years. On the most recent Annual Report, Washington indicated that the date of last
mining activity occurred in January of 2012. Please note that per Rule 3.1.3, all reclamation shall be carried to completion
within 5 years from the date the operator has ceased mining.
The site consists of two separate mining areas on each side of the creek; a larger area on the south side and a slightly
smaller area on the northern side of the creek. The southern portion, which was located on the inside of a slight meander
of the creek channel, had topsoil stripped and piled along the western edge of the site. The northern portion had topsoil
stripped and piled to the west of this mining area. These two topsoil piles were stable and vegetated. Some of the slopes
within the site were identified as being too steep and need to be graded to the approved 311:1 V or flatter before the topsoil
is replaced. When reclamation is in progress, there is no need to replace topsoil or re -seed the area within the creek bed
because seasonal waters will destroy such reclamation.
The approved reclamation plan has been attached for the Operator's reference.
Inspection Contact Address
Jason Lockard
Washington County
150 Ash Avenue
Akron, CO 80720
CC: Tom Kaldenbach; DRMS
