Mining and Safety
Department of Natural resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
February 27, 2015
To: Jason Musick
From: Susan Burgmaier
Re: Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C- 1996 -083)
2013 Annual Hydrology Report
Per Dan's request, while I was the lead specialist on the Bowie No. 2 Mine, you reviewed the 2013
Annual Hydrology Report for the mine and provided comments to me on January 8, 2015 (your
memo was dated December 29, 2014). Shortly after your review, you became lead specialist for
the site, so Dan indicated that you would send your review comments directly to Bowie Resources,
LLC (BRL).
I also reviewed the AHR to identify any trends in water quality and to compare sampling results to
the predicted hydrologic consequences in the permit application package. Dan requested that I
provide my comments to you for inclusion in your review letter.
In addition to the comments in your December 29, 2014 memo, I have the following comments as a
result of my review of the 2013 AHR for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. These comments are framed to be
forwarded to BRL.
1. Figure No. 81, B- Gulch -lo, includes lab data for a June 17, 2013 monitoring event, but the
corresponding field data indicates "No Flow ". Please explain.
2. Figure 88, C- Gulch -lo, includes a flow value of 5 gpm on June 17, 2013. No lab results were
presented for that sample date. Please provide lab data for C- Gulch -lo on June 17, 2013 or
explain why an analysis was not conducted.
3. Figures 109 and 110 (Fire Mountain Canal) have carryover notes from the 2012 AHR that should
not have appeared in the 2013 report. Please remove the comments regarding 2012 forgotten
samples and flow shutoffs from the 2013 report.
J..
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http: / /mining.state.co.us I
John W.
