Natural Soda, LLC 2014 Project Status Report & Annual Plan of Development
t
6.5 Raptor Survey
r1,
LJ
In 2014 NS conducted a raptor breeding activity survey and inventory in the pinion -
juniper habitat that was near the planned 2014 well field development areas. The intent
of the raptor study was to identify raptor breeding areas /nests prior to well field
development. The survey was performed in late March and early April 2014 by Daub &
Associates, Inc. The BLM White River Field Office assisted NS by identifying areas
which provide the most suitable raptor nesting habitat within the 2014 project areas.
Surveyors walked predetermined transect paths checking all suitable trees for nests and
high accumulations of woody debris under trees. GPS track logs were collected from all
transects surveyed. Fourteen nests were observed during the pedestrian transect
surveys. Five of these nests were newly identified nests. One of these new nests was
a tree burrow that was most likely not a raptor nest. All nests were observed for
condition and activity. Photographs were taken of the GPS coordinates, nest, nest tree,
and nest stand. Two nests were determined to be active Common Raven nests. Only
two raptor nests were observed to be active. A report was written and submitted to the
BLM following completion of the survey. Where the active raptor nesting activity was
found NS made modification to 2014 drilling activities as required by the BLM
regulations so as to not disturb the raptors in any way.
6.6 Other Observations
Elk, deer, coyotes, rabbits and fox were noted in and around the well -field throughout
the year.
6.7 Waste Disposal
Common domestic solid waste was collected in containers and periodically transported to
the Rio Blanco County landfill. Sewage from the plant was directed to a septic system with
a leach drain field. Process water, including plant wash down and precipitation runoff, was
directed to the process pond. A pump in the process pond allows NS to recycle the water
to the barren system. The wastewater pond stores water from the cooling tower blow
down, water softener brine and blow down from the boilers. Table 9 below shows
hazardous waste that was generated and collected at the NS facilities. Hazardous waste
was collected, contained safely, stored separately from normal waste, and then disposed
of properly by a certified hazardous waste company.
Table 9: Hazardous Waste Disposal
Date Shipped
Quantity
Size of Container
Contents
EPA Waste Code
2/26/2014
1
325 Ibs
USP -Test Waste
D001, D004, D005,
D007, D008, D011
2/26/2014
1
1,800 Ibs
Used Crankcase Oil (recycled)
9/11/2014
1
10 Ibs
Universal Waste--Light Bulbs (Mercury Bulbs
9/11/2014
1
30lbs
Universal Waste--Light Bulbs (Light Bulbs
9/11/2014
1
460lbs
Chloride -Test Waste
D007, D008, D011
10/9/2014
1
100lbs
Chloride -Test Waste
D007, D008, D011
10/9/2014
1
30lbs
USP -Test Waste
D004, D005, D008,
D011
10/9/2014
1
1 980lbs
Used Crankcase Oil (recycled)
Reported from
Natural Soda by Michael Clark 1/20/2015
' DAUB & ASSOCIATES.
