'�I 04ei <br />Mining activity may be permitted in RR zones by Special Use Review (SUR) provided it <br />complies with this section and SUR procedures as stated elsewhere in this code. <br />The following Four - Tiered Permit System is applicable to all mining and milling activity <br />in Gilpin County. No activity in excess of the limits set by this system shall be <br />permitted. <br />Definitions <br />Hard Rock Mining - Metallic ore taken from sub surface veins in solid rock without <br />overburden material removal; and /or, Existing hard rock mine waste rock removal for <br />metallic ore extraction and /or relocation for reclamation purposes. <br />Placer Mining - Metallic ore taken from alluvial deposits where the majority of matrix <br />material is left on site. <br />Open Cut Mining - The displacement and /or removal of relatively large quantities of <br />overburden material greatly altering the natural surface topography. <br />Limits and Restrictions <br />Tier 1 — No significant Impact (No County Permit Required) <br />Hard Rock <br />• Prospecting Operation (as per MLRB) <br />Placer <br />• Suction dredge with intake nozzle of 4" or less. <br />• No onsite Designated Chemical processing. <br />• Excavation above ordinary high water level, as defined by the US Army Corps <br />of Engineers, shall be non - mechanized only and limited to 12 cubic yards per <br />day <br />• Maximum 12 cubic yards exposed excavation at any given time. <br />Open Cut <br />• No provision for Open Cut Mining in Tier 1 <br />Tier 2 — Minim iv rmi <br />• 2 -Acre Limited Mining Operation (as per MLRB) <br />• No onsite Designated Chemical processing. <br />• Offsite impact identification and mitigation plan required.
