• ~ If this unit is used as nonirrigated cropland, the main limitations are
the hazard of erosion, steepness of slope, and low precipitation. Because
precipitation is not sufficient for annual cropping, a cropping system that
includes small grain and summer fallow is most suitable. Maintaining crop
residue on or near the surface reduces runoff, reduces soil blowing, and
helps to maintain soil tilth and organic matter content. Crops respond to
nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer. Soil blowing can be reduced by planting
crops in alternate strips and at right angles to the preva.il.ing wind. This
unit can produce 18 bushels of wheat groan in a wheat-fallow cropping
system.
This unit is cell suited to windbreaks and environmental plantings.
Supplemental irr.igatirn may be needed when planting and during dry periods.
Among the trees that are suitable for planting are Russian-olive, cuttonoc~od,
• .~ and golden willow. Among the shrubs are honeysuckle and caragana.
This map unit is well suited to homes.ite developnent. The main
limitation is slope in some areas and the high to very high hazard of
erosion. Revegetating disturbed areas around construction sites as soon as
possible helps to control erosion.
This ~^ap unit is in capab.il.ity subclasses Ne, irrigated, and VIe,
nonirr.igated. It is in Loamy Foothills range site.
•
