It formed in alluvium and colluviw~ derived <br />dominantly from sedimentary rock. The native vegetation is mainly grass. <br />Elevation is 6,200 to 7,800 feet. 'ihe average annual precipitation .is 15 to <br />22 .inches, the average annual air temperature is 47 to 49 degrees F, and the <br />average frost-free season is 90 to 190 days. <br />'Pfpically, the surface layer is loam 6 .inches thick. ~ihe subsoil is clay <br />loam 15 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is <br />loam. 4he soil is neutral to a depth of 25 inches and moderately alkaline <br />and calcareous below that depth. <br />Included .in this unit is 10 percent s.im.ilar soils that are gravelly and <br />• ~ <br />cabbly. <br />,r ` L <br />The permeability of this l4aef~e so.tl is moderate. Available water <br />capacity is high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is <br />slow to med.i~un, and the hazard of eater erosion .is high to very high. <br />This unit is used mainly for irrigated hay and pasturfl.
