Detailed Design
Design Parameters:
Type Coal Mine Waste Disposal Area
Capacity 1,000,000 cubic yards
Slopes No steeper than 2.5h:1 v slopes with one 15' wide terrace
Height 122 Feet
Terraces Slope 5% back towards the pile and 2 to 5% towards
collection ditches
Compaction 90 percent of the maximum dry density to prevent
spontaneous combustion and to provide the strength
required for stability of the refuse pile. Dry densities will be
determined in accordance with AASHTO T99 -74.
Haul Road The haul road will begin near the base of the coal preparation
plant and traverse south and east across Bowie Road (State
Highway 133B) near MM 13.2. The grade of the haul road will
vary between 2% and 13.5% as it declines in elevation from
the preparation plant to Gob Pile number 3. There is no place
on this road that exceeds a pitch grade of 15% and the overall
road grade is less than 10 %.
Diversion Ditches Flows from the 100 -year, 24 -hour storm event. Upper
diversion ditches are designed to flow into the east and west
Subdrainage
System
collection ditches and then into the sediment pond.
Alternate rock under -drain system as per Rule 4.10.3(5).
See page 5 Water Control Measures.
Volume XI
TR -84 - 3 - 02/14
