2014 Revegetation Survey
Introduction
Visual surveys of the referenced sites were made. Each site was walked or ridden with an
ATV to assess the site. Observations were then recorded on an inspection form for future
reference (see Appendix). The intent of the inspections was to:
1. Assess the effectiveness of past revegetation practices.
2. Identify potential problems that exist that may warrant further attention.
3. Provide insight to future revegetation efforts.
4. Provide information to help develop strategies to correct potential deficiencies.
During 2014 we saw a near normal winter with higher than normal precipitation during May
(1.96" vs. 1.00 "). June saw no measurable precipitation and July saw only 0.50 inches.
August and September were unusually wet months with over twice the normal precipitation
recorded during this period. The remainder of the year saw near normal precipitation.
Overall, 2014 had above average precipitation with 12.43 inches compared to the average
annual precipitation of 10.02 inches.
No storm events of unusually high intensity were noted.
Cheatgrass returned with vengeance in 2014 due to the wet fall of 2013 providing strong
competition for desirable perennial species. 2015 will most likely be similar to 2014 due to
the relatively wet fall and high cheatgrass seedling density.
2012 Drill Site Reclamation
These sites generally showed good establishment. They continue to mature with
development somewhat hampered by a general abundance of Russian thistle and to a lesser
extent cheatgrass. Russian thistle usually does not pose a long term problem and will
eventually be replaced by the perennials.
