end loader, backhoe and dumped into a shaker(screen)/trommel. The <br /> shaker/trommel will remove oversized material using provided water (35-100 gpm) <br /> where the finer sands will be captured for processing and coarse gravels and <br /> cobbles will be returned to the pit and reclaimed. Approximately 80% of the water <br /> used for screening purposes will be recycled while the remaining 20% will be <br /> discharged to Cache Creek. Silts and clays will be conveyed into a series of three <br /> ponds designed to drop out total suspended solids (TSS). The first pond will be <br /> used to drop out course TSS materials. The gravel constructed ponds are typically <br /> less than 100 feet long, 50 feet wide and less than 10 feet deep (Figure D-2) <br /> illustrates the location of the two sets of three processing ponds. The ponds are <br /> built to remove sediment yet designed to allow seepage from the respective ponds <br /> such that process water is not contained more than 72 hours yet allow ample time <br /> to settle sediment such that any discharge from the ponds will meet Discharge <br /> water quality standards. <br /> Water from the first pond in each processing stream will be conveyed to the second <br /> and third ponds (4-6 inch PVC pipe) to polish and to contain fine suspended solids <br /> prior to water discharge to Cache Creek. Discharged water will be managed in <br /> accordance with CDPHE industrial discharge water quality permit requirements <br /> (Exhibit M-4). The captured sands will be collected and further processed, using <br /> gravity separation techniques to recover free gold. After processing, the <br /> (geochemically benign) sands will be disposed in previously mined areas that are <br /> not prone to surface water erosion and reclaimed as outlined in Exhibit E. <br /> Gold Basin mining is designed to operate two separate placer processing units. <br /> Initially, one processing unit will be used and within a year or two, a second <br /> processing unit will be installed. The initial processing unit will be located <br /> towards the eastern (downstream) portion of the property boundary Exhibit D, <br /> Figure D-3. The second processing unit will be located northeast of the storage <br /> unit (upper Cache Creek) in an area operated by the previous operators Exhibit D, <br /> Figure D-2. The alluvial material containing free gold will be processed using the <br /> methods previously discussed.
