Final Technical Report, 2014 Monitoring Well Rehabilitation Program Bowie Mine 15
2.6 Replacement Well BRL- IP- 14 -67 -D -BLW
Drilling replacement well BRL- IP- 14 -67 -D -BLW began on August 23, 2014 and the well was
completed and developed on September 6, 2014. Bowie's consultant, Brad Lindsey primarily
supervised the drilling and installation under the direction Joe Frank of HydroGeo. However,
Paul Stubbe, HydroGeo's field geologist took Brad's place on August 24th and Bowie's geologist
Kendra Hinton supervised the activities on September 6, 2014. It should be noted that there were
numerous weather delays and work shift breaks during the drilling of this well.
On August 23, 2014 RACS installed and cemented in 64 feet of 10 -inch steel surface casing,
sealing off the surface colluvium. The 8 5/8 -inch diameter borehole for the well was drilled
from 64 feet to a depth of 364 feet and well building began on August 27th. Prior to well
installation the well bore caved in from a depth of 360 to 364 feet. The total depth of the well is
357 feet bgs. The well was constructed with 4 -inch Sch. 40 flush joint blank PVC well casing
from 357 to 347 feet bgs, followed by 10 feet of 4 -inch Sch. 40 0.020 slot PVC screen from 347
to 337 feet bgs. Washed silica sand (10 -20) was installed in the annulus of the well from a depth
of 360 to 322 feet bgs. A bentonite chip (Pel Plug) seal was installed above the sand pack from
322 to 312 feet bgs followed by bentonite grout (Snaco grout 30) to a depth of about 159 feet,
followed by 3 feet of cement to 156' bgs, then bentonite chips (3/8 ") to 80 feet bgs. Cement was
used to fill the annulus from 80 feet bgs to 2 feet above the ground surface. There is
approximately one foot of sand surrounding the 2.86' PVC stickup within the well head and the
well has a locking well cap. The well completion diagram is presented in Appendix A.
Well development of the new well began on September 4, 2014 and was completed on
September 6, 2014 when field water quality parameters of the well water stabilized with an
average pH of 7.93 s.u., average conductivity of 2,091 µS /cm, and average temperature of 20.9°
C. The static water level was 344.5 feet btoc on September 6, 2014. A water quality sample for
laboratory analysis will be collected in October 2014 using a stainless steel point source bailer.
Laboratory water quality data will be summarized in a subsequent report.
2.7 Well BRL- IP- 00 -67 -D -BLW
The original well BRL- IP- 00 -67 -D -BLW was abandoned by RACS on September 3, 2014.
November 2014 HydroGeo, Inc.
