MINREC, INC. AHR PAGE 2 <br />Since May 2010 the discharge from Treatment Pond T -2 has been routed from Outfall 001 <br />to sediment pond P -9 and the refuse pile pond. This routing of water is approved as part of <br />the developed water resource post mining land use. The ponds are periodically inspected <br />to determine the water level in each pond. Water flows out of P -9 to the refuse pile pond <br />after P -9 is full. The discharge from treatment pond T -2 will be routed to outfall 001A when <br />the water level in the refuse pond approaches the level of its spillway. It is Minrec's intent <br />to maintain a minimum 2 feet of freeboard in the refuse pond. <br />Monitoring data for this years report is segregated into the following appendices: <br />Appendix No.Monitoring Data <br />North Thompson Creek - Upstream & Downstream Water Quality <br />No. 1 and No. 3 Mine Discharge into Long Pond Water Quality <br />SURFACE WATER QUALITY <br />Appendix I contains the water quality information collected for North Thompson Creek. The <br />quality information taken on North Thompson Creek, in May and September, is designed to <br />monitor quality at the approximate high and low flow. <br />MINE FLOWS <br />All of the water flowing into the No. 1 Mine flows out through a 6 -inch PVC pipe and into the <br />long pond. <br />Prior to sealing the No. 3 Mine, a point source of spring water located about a mile inside <br />the mine was piped to the surface. The pipeline terminated in the manhole along the road <br />below the No. 3 Mine. A second six inch diameter pipe was installed from immediately <br />behind the No. 3 Mine seals to the manhole. The manhole had an outlet pipe that ran <br />directly under the road to Outfall 007. The good quality water from the spring flowed into <br />the manhole and was discharged directly to Outfall 007 from 1986 through mid 1995. <br />During this period of time the second pipe originating from immediately behind the seals <br />did not discharge. During the second quarter of 1995, wet spring weather caused the mine <br />to fill and the pipe installed immediately behind the seals begin discharging iron laden <br />water. The pipeline that conveyed the good quality spring water eventually failed so all of <br />the water being discharged from the mine now flows from the pipeline that was installed <br />from immediately behind the seals to the manhole. <br />In order to treat this iron laden water, a 4 -inch diameter PVC pipe was installed to convey <br />the discharge from the No. 3 mine to the long pond located at the No. 1 Mine. The <br />discharges from the mines were combined effective August 11, 1995. The combined <br />discharge from the mines is treated by the passive water treatment system and then piped <br />to Pond 9 or Outfall 001. Outfall 007 is no longer a permitted discharge point. <br />
