CWDA No. 2
#01349-0001 Huddlestnn -Bem
0111411
The recorded increases in pore pressures at VWP -08 are consistent with the fact that bob
placement has occurred in the vicinity of this instrument during the spring and summer of 2014.
The pore pressures in VWP -08 may decrease slightly over the winter months during which no
gob is being placed at CWDA No. 2 and then increase again in the spring once gob placement
operations resume. However, the pore pressures measured to date are not sufficient to reflect
instability in CWDA No. 2.
VPVP -09
VWP -09 was installed on May 18, 2012 near the toe of CWDA No. 2. The pore pressures
recorded at VWP -09 have been fairly steady since installation. This suggests that dewatering of
the gob in this area is likely nearly complete. It is anticipated that the pore pressures at VWP -09
will remain fairly steady over time.
VWP -10
VWP -10 was installed on May 18, 2014 near the toe of CWDA No. 2. The pore pressures
recorded at VWP -10 have been fairly steady since installation. This suggests that de-watering of
the gob in this area is likely nearly complete. It is anticipated that the pore pressures at VWP -10
will remain fairly steady over time.
Site Visit Observations
HBET visited the site on January 8, 2015. At the time of our visit, CWDA No. 2 was generally
snow covered and coal waste was not being placed. At the top of CWDA No. 2, piles of wet gob
were present in the drying area. The wet gob piles appeared to be in conformance with the
recommendations outlined in the referenced Stability Evaluation report for TR #85.
Coverfill soils from the excavation of the eastern portion of CWDA No. 3 were being placed in
the stockpile areas on CWDA No. 2. In general, CWDA No. 2 appeared to be in good condition
and no evidence of instability or other adverse conditions were observed.
General
In general, based upon the results of the recent VWP and inclinometer monitoring data, and upon
our observations at the site, HBET does not believe that there is any reduction in the stability of
CWDA No. 2. Continued quarterly monitoring of piezometers and inclinometers is
recommended.
We are pleased to be of service to your project. Please contact us if you have any questions or
comments regarding the contents of this report.
Respectfi.dly Submitted:
Huddleston -Berry Engineering and Testing, LLC
ki ©rro 0- el Iq
Michael A.
