RECEIVED
DNR COLORADO
Al■CO Division of Water Resources JAN 20 5
Department of Natural Resources DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821 MINING AND SAFETY
Denver, CO 80203
Response to Reclamation Permit Application Amendment Consideration
DATE: January 12, 2015
TO: Tyler V. O'Donnell, Environmental Protection Specialist
CC: Division 1 Office, District 2 Water Commissioner
FROM: loana Comaniciu, P.E.
RE: Pit 29, Permit No. M-1980-183
Operator: Brannan Sand and Gravel
Contact: Brannan Sand and Gravel - 303-534-1231
Section 35, Twp 1 South, Rng 67 West, 6th P.M., Adams County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
Brannan Sand and Gravel requested an amendment to the application for Pit 29, Permit no.
M1980-183. The purpose of this amendment is to mitigate ground water mounding on the
Einspahr property located immediately to the south of the north cell of Pit 29. The plan has
been designed to reestablish the ground water levels that existed prior to mining. A French
drain is proposed to be installed on the upgradient (south) side of Pit 29 at the Einspahr
property. The French drain will begin in the northeast corner of the Einspahr property,
continue down gradient west to a maintenance manhole at the northwest corner of the
Einspahr property, than continue approximately 1200 feet along the west side of Pit 29. The
beginning and ending elevations of the drain will coincide with the estimated pre-mining
water levels.
Prior to the construction of the French drain the operator is required to submit to the State
Engineer's Office a Notice of Intent to Construct a Dewatering Well (Form GWS-62). All
ground water pumped from the French drain (dewatering well) shall not be used for any
beneficial purposes and must be discharge to the stream system without consumptive use,
including evaporation losses. The operator will need to obtain a well permit if the French
drain (dewatering well) will be in place for more than one year after construction. Upon
completion of the ground water mitigation on the Einspahr property, the operator must
plugged the French drain in accordance with Rule 16 of the Water Well Construction Rules.
The applicant may contact the State Engineer's Office with any questions.
'4',_
, ,
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3581 F 303.866.3585 www.water.state.co.us I R
. .
' ih7■;
