Tegre Corporation
Job No. 3124JS057
TABLE 4
TEMPORARY EXCAVATIONS CLOSE TO IMPROVEMENTS;
SHORT-TERM CONDITION; F.S. =2.0
Excavation Maximum Slope Inclination Maximum Slope Inclination
Depth (Granular Profile) (Clay/Granular Profile)
20 feet 2H:1V 1H:1V
40 feet 2H:1V 1H:1V
60 feet 2.5H:1V 2H:1V
80 feet 2.5H:1V 2.5H:1V
The stability of permanent excavation slopes and embankments was analyzed for the long-
term condition. A minimum factor of safety of 2.0 is recommended for long-term
excavations. The factor of safety for the long-term condition will be a function of the soil
conditions and the excavation depth. A summary of the stability analysis for the long-term
condition is presented in the following table. The results of the stability analysis are
presented on Figures C-17 through C-24 in Appendix C.
TABLE 5
LONG-TERM EXCAVATIONS; F.S. = 2.0
Excavation Maximum Slope Inclination Maximum Slope Inclination
Depth (Granular Profile) (Clay/Granular Profile)
Clay Layer 4H:1V
20 feet 2H:1V
Granular Layer N/A
Clay Layer 4.5H:1V
40 feet 2H:1V
Granular Layer 2H:1V
60 feet 2.5H:1V Clay Layer 4.5H:1V
Granular Layer 3H:1V
Clay Layer 4.5H:1V
80 feet 2.5H:1V
Granular Layer 3H:1V
6.5 Stability Analysis—Off-Site Areas
The proposed gravel pit is located in a rural area and is surrounded by vacant undeveloped
land. In addition, properties in the surrounding area are generally vacant or used for
agricultural purposes. The only improvement in the area is an oil well, located
approximately 200 to 250 feet north of the northwest property corner. There are currently
no other improvements in the area of the gravel pit.
9
