Basil Bear, BRL
C- 1981 -038 / SL -05 / Adequacy Review
12- Jan -2015
a. The application states that the woody plant density for the East and West mine is
> 90% of 1,000 stems per acre. The permit states the woody plant density is
between 800 and 1000 stems per acre (Volume 1 -2.05 part 2, page 75 and Volume
9A, Vegetation -Part 2, page 6).
b. In the diversity section of the application, one standard is missing: "the five
herbaceous species combined will not exceed 90% in relative cover or
production." The five species noted in this standard are to be native, perennial,
herbaceous species (Volume 1 -2.05 part 2, page 75).
C. The annual production level for the East Mine is stated in the application (page 7)
as 450 pounds /acre. The permit has different standards for the East and West
Mines. The East Mine is 400 pounds /acre (Volume 9A, Vegetation -Part 2, page
6) and the West Mine is 450 pounds /acre (Volume 1 -2.05 part 2, page 75).
This concludes the Division's preliminary adequacy review of the SL -05 application. Please
respond to these items at your earliest convenience. We will be reviewing the Reclamation Cost
Estimate for this mine to determine the amount of liability that can be released under SL -05.
Best regards,
Marcia L.
