2014 Annual Report
Front Range Aggregates, LLC
Parkdale Project
Permit # M- 1997 -054
112C ANNUAL RPORT SUPPLEMENTAL WRITTEN NARRATIVE
Minina Activitv
Sandstone Mining Area
No mining activity was conducted in the sandstone mining portion of the quarry in 2014.
Granite Minina Area
Limited exploratory mining was conducted in the granite quarry area of the site in 2014. This
exploratory mining affected approximately three acres, as shown on our updated mine map.
Alluvial Mining Area
The depth of mining on the alluvial deposit portion of the site was controlled by and limited to the
top of ground water prior to the 2008 reclamation permit amendment. The 2008 Reclamation
Permit Amendment allowed for mining of alluvial material to bedrock. Most of the post -2008
mining activity has focused on removal of alluvial material from areas previously mined to the top
of ground water. As a result, there has been limited new surface disturbance. Mining activity in
2014 included continued mining of residual material above bedrock along the western mining limit.
Mining was also resumed along the southern mining limit in the area south of the plant area.
Mining continued to be conducted with minimal interference from groundwater infiltration into the
pit. Mining will continue in the area south of the plant area during 2015.
Sales volume in 2014 was only slightly higher than that in 2013, well below the peak sales years
of 2006 and 2007, and below the anticipated sales volumes projected in the 2008 Reclamation
Permit Amendment documents finalized in 2008. Consequentially, production volumes since
2008 have also below permitted and projected volumes.
Groundwater
Groundwater levels continue to be below those experienced prior to 2009. There is some exposed
surface water impounded in fresh water and settling ponds excavated within the permitted alluvial
mining limit. The fresh water and settling ponds are actively used to support washed aggregate
processing. The water in the settling ponds is primarily reclaimed wash water. A substitute water
supply plan is in place to account for the limited groundwater consumption that takes place on the
site. No excess water was discharged in 2014.
Overburden and Topsoil Stockpiles
The slopes on the topsoil and overburden stockpiles from 2011 and 2012 continue to be
maintained, and vegetation continues to spread, in spite of the and conditions that prevail on the
site. Some additional material was added to the stockpiles in 2014. Sloping and stabilization of
the additional material is performed as the material is placed in order to minimize erosion from
the periodic rains in the area.
