The inspection began at Ponds C & D, which were both
covered in snow and ice. Bill and I made it to the top of gob
pile #2, but there was not a lot to see. Over a foot of snow
was on the ground. Gob pile #2 was idle, equipment was
parked and the only activities are a daily, or every other day
trip by Seth to manage the drainage. It is likely pile #2 will
remain idle until next Spring.
Gob was being hauled to the west drying area at gob pile
#3. The top of pile #3 was essentially idle and covered in
snow. The East drying area was being excavated, and has
been broken into two sections. The lower 2/3
(approximately) will be used as the active drying area. The
upper 1/3 has become a temporary coverfill storage area.
The lower section is nearly to final grade, with a 2% bottom
slope. Bowie plans to start utilizing the East drying area
once the lower section is to final grade, which could be any
day now. Coverfill will be stored in the upper section of the
drying area until weather improves and it can be hauled
back to gob pile #2.
The entrance gate on the main haul road has been
installed, a picture is enclosed.
2
