DIVISION 2 - SITE WORK <br />SECTION 02290 - FILL AREA CONSTRUCTION (By Others) <br />PART 1- GENERAL <br />1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br />Construction of fill areas as shown on the drawings and as specified herein including foundation <br />preparation, dewatering, fill placement, moisture control and compaction. <br />1.02 RELATED WORK <br />Section 02100 - Site Preparation <br />PART 2 - MATERIALS <br />2.01 COMPACTED FILL <br />Compacted fill shall consist of random inorganic mixtures of sandy, silty clays to clayey, silty sands. Fill <br />material shall be classified SC -CL according to the Unified Soil Classification System with a minimum of <br />30 percent passing a #200 sieve. The materials shall be obtained from excavations, borrow areas or other <br />sources as directed by the Engineer. It shall be free of any deleterious materials, including materials larger <br />than 5 inches, as determined by the Engineer. Oversize rock fragments shall be wasted as approved by the <br />Engineer or stockpiled for use as riprap when found to be acceptable to the Engineer. <br />PART 3- EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />No fill material shall be placed until the foundation for each section has been dewatered, stripped, suitably <br />prepared and has been approved by the Engineer. <br />All cavities, depressions and irregularities, within the fill area shall be filled with embankment materials as <br />specified for the overlying embankment. <br />3.02 DEWATERING <br />The Contractor shall construct and maintain all necessary channels, flumes, drains and related structures; <br />furnish all equipment required to remove water from various parts of the work; and maintain foundations <br />and other parts of the work in a state of dryness so as not to impede work activities, become detrimental to <br />related structures, or cause delays. <br />The Contractor shall design the dewatering system and submit the design to the Owner and Engineer for <br />approval prior to dewatering. Dewatering activities shall conform to all project permits and applicable <br />regulations. The dewatering system shall assure that the adjacent facilities and any other work will not be <br />damaged by dewatering operations. <br />The Contractor shall dispose of the water in a suitable manner without damage to adjacent property or <br />without being a menace to public health or without causing a public inconvenience or nuisance. <br />The water shall not be drained into work completed or under construction without the consent of the <br />Engineer. <br />Wattenberg Resource Pond 3 Slurry Wall Section 02290 — Fill Area Construction <br />Page 1 <br />
