Aley 1999 2 <br />Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. 1998 Antral Hydrology Report <br />ANNUAL REPORT OF INFLOWS, DISCHARGES AND CONSUMPTION OF WATER <br />WITHIN THE MINE <br />(Period January 1, 1998 through December 31, 1998) <br />Mine Inflows <br />The estimated amount of mine inflow into accessible areas of the Southfield Mine during the <br />reporting period is 9.7 ac -ft. This quantity is based on the combined total of water pumped <br />within the mine and measured at inflow and seep locations. Mine inflow and seep locations <br />identified during the reporting period are shown on accompanying Map 1. The locations <br />shown for this reporting period are the same as those shown in previous reporting periods, <br />except location V. Less area of the mine continues to be accessible for monitoring inflows <br />since mining is primarily in the retreat process. Because of this, the measured inflows <br />represent a progressively smaller percentage of the actual total inflows. <br />The significant decrease in estimated mine inflow this reporting period compared to previous <br />reporting periods is primarily due to the absence of observed inflow to the 1 North/2 North <br />area of the mine. No pooling of water into active and accessible areas of these sections was <br />observed during the reporting period. EFCI believes that this area of the mine may have <br />reached equilibrium with the surrounding groundwater system such that water no longer rises <br />into the accessible area of the mine. <br />Mine inflow and seep monitoring data are presented on Table 1, with each location keyed to <br />Map L Inflow and seep locations were monitored during the spring and fall during the <br />reporting period. <br />Review of Table 1, Mira; Inflow Data Summary, indicates that mine inflow quality is <br />consistent with inflow data presented in previous reporting periods. The estimated quantity for <br />each monitoring location in the mine, shown on Table 1, are comparable to previous <br />reporting periods with the exception of the 1 North/ 2 North area described above. <br />Water handling systems in the mine capture most of the inflow at their source. Within the <br />mine, water from each inflow and seep area is pumped to a sump at 32 crosscut, or gravity <br />flows to the abandoned west area of the mine. Water from the sump is automatically pumped <br />over the adjacent ramp and into the edge of the pillared area of the West Mains where it is <br />gradually filling the west area of the mine. Water discharged from the 32 crosscut sump <br />totalled 6.54 ac -ft for the reporting period. No Inflow from the 1 North/ 2 North area was <br />pumped to the 32 crosscut sump during the reporting period. <br />
