EXHIBIT I SOILS INFORMATION
Included in this exhibit are copies of the soil types encountered in the Custer County field studies from
the original permit file. The soil was mapped as a Coutis sandy loam, a well-drained,fine to course
textured mountain soil formed along terraces and alluvial fans. The soil occurrence across the permit
area varies considerably with gravels surfacing in some areas and soils up to several feet in other
locations. The operator plans on retaining all topsoil encountered during mine development and
storing it in a stockpile immediately adjacent to the mining face. The sub-soils encountered
underlying the growth zones will be used for construction of the earth berms to be constructed along
the southern aspect of the permit boundary.
11
