MINING PLAN EXHIBIT D(CONT)
varies from 8 to 12 inches, averaging 10 inches overall .
Underlaying the soil is the gravel and sand that will be mined.
The topsoil and overburden, when encountered, will be stockpiled
for use then reclamation begins .
There are 5 types of soils found on the site . These soils are
typically along the South Platte River in Adams County. They
have no unusual qualities and are marginal for agricultural
purposes unless irrigated. The Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS) designation on the soils map are, Loamy alluvial
land, moderately wet, Lw; Terrace escarpments, Tc; Vona sandy
loam, 0 to 1% slopes, VoA; Vona sandy loam, 0 to 3% slopes, VoB;
and Wet alluvial land, Wt . Descriptions for each soil are part
of the NRCS report that is in EXHIBIT I/J of this application.
These descriptions are fairly consistent with what is found on
the site with the exception that there is little or no native
vegetation on the sites since it has been heavily disturbed in
the past and there have been high impact agricultural activity on
the property that has degraded the land.
SITE INFORMATION
Of the total 53 . 17 acres ± in the permit; 37 .25 acres ± will be
mine, and the remaining 15 . 92 acres ± will remain undisturbed, or
is lake area. There is a 10 . 15 acres pre-law mining area in the
northwest corner of the permit area. The two small sand piles
along the north side of the lake will be removed. Any parts of
the pre-law area redisturbed will be reclaimed. Please refer to
the MINING TIMETABLE on page 12 for the estimated acreage of each
area associated with the mining stages in this two stage mine.
The revegetation plan and methods used in each area during
reclamation are discussed in EXHIBIT E-RECLAMATION PLAN.
There is very little topsoil available due to past uses of the
property but any that is encountered will be retained for use on
areas needing revegetation. Much of the eastern part of the
property was used as a sod farm and any topsoil and overburden in
that area was used and removed with the sod when it was sold.
The gravel lies on the surface in this area and the vegetation
cover is very sparse . We estimate there will be less then one
foot of topsoil per acre that will be salvaged across the site.
The topsoil stockpiles will be located around the mine area to
reduce the haul distances when reclamation starts . See the MINING
6 (Revised 12/15/2014)
