As per the successful experience at NH2 Mine, it is believed that a high density
polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline is the best choice for the temporary and permanent
routes. Although expensive, WFC believes that this design will best suit the long term
needs of the CC Co.
WFC is evaluating two possible diversion routes for the proposed pipeline. One that
would begin at the easterly mine permit boundary and the route south along the county
road then around the mine area to the west and then north along 2600 Road to tie into
the existing ditch as it leaves the mine permit area. The second option would be to
begin the pipeline farther east to gain additional elevation drop as the pipeline swings
around the mine property. This additional elevation drop is desirous as it could provide
sufficient pressure to allow for side roll irrigation without the need for pumping.
Proposed pipeline construction would take place in the fall /winter of 2011/2012.
Installation would be undertaken well in advance of the irrigation season to ensure that
the system is fully functional when it is needed.
Once mining moves north of Meehan Draw and the area is restored to its approximate
original contour, the temporary line can be moved into the permanent location in the
winter of 2016 -2017. The permanent pipeline will be ready for use in the irrigation
season of 2016.
WFC is soliciting approval from the CC Company for the pipeline.
Design of the pipeline diversion was prepared by Del -Mont Consultants of Montrose
and their design details and all drawings are contained in Appendix 2.05.3(4) -4. Some
of the basic design characteristics are listed below.
6.2 Design Details
1) The pipeline will be a continuous fused polyethylene pipe of with no joints that
will roll with the terrain. This pipe is the best choice for tough applications and
long term durability.
2) The pipe wall thickness of is resistant to weather and wear and will remain
flexible. The polyethylene material is made to last indefinitely.
3) The pipe has excellent flow characteristics and will handle the full ditch flow
during the 6 years of temporary installation as well as for the permanent location.
4) Each takeoff will have a valve and a weir or flow meter for control and
measurement of the outflow.
5) The pipe is extremely durable and will avoid many pitfalls of other pipe types.
6) The temporary pipe will be laid on the surface while the permanent pipe will be
buried. The permanent line will not interfere with any post - reclamation land uses.
Section 2.05.3(4) Page 7 September 2014 (TR -06)
