b Applegate
Gro u p, Inc.
Water Resource Advisors for the West
' Permit Amendment
Permanent Ground Water Mounding Mitigation Plan,Brannan Pit 29
' Permit No. M-1980-183
' The following is the permanent plan (the Plan) to mitigate the ground water mounding as
stipulated in the Final Order of the Mined Land Reclamation Board pertaining to Pit 29 (Permit
' No. M-1980-183) dated November 13, 2014. The Plan has been designed to eliminate flooded
conditions on the Einspahr property (immediately to the south of the north cell of Pit 29) within
' 180 days after commencement of the Plan. Implementation of the Plan will commence within 30
days of approval by the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety(DRMS).
Plan Description
The Plan has been designed to reestablish the ground water levels that existed prior to mining. The
estimated pre-mining ground water levels are shown on Figure 1. The map is taken from the Pit 29
original application entitled; "Ground Water Contours", prepared by Blatchley Associates, Inc.,
1980. Also shown on Figure 1 is the existing water level in MW-4.
On November 19, 2014 a survey was performed to determine relevant elevations to assist in the
design of a mitigation system. The results of the survey are shown on Figures 2 and 3. Figure 2
shows the land surface elevations and Figure 3 shows water surface elevations. Additionally, we
obtained the LIDAR topographic data which is shown on Figure 4.
' The elevation survey of the water levels shows the following:
' • The water level in the pasture was at 5011.1 feet. The depth of water in the center of the
pond was about 0.6 feet based on the measured land surface elevation of 5010.5
• The ground water level in MW-4 was 5009.3
• The ground water level in MW-8 was 5010.3. Note that this water level was taken two
' days after the other levels and may not correlate with the other elevations.
1490 W. 121`Avenue,Suite 100 118 W.60 Street,Suite 100
Denver,CO 80234 Glenwood Springs,CO 81601
' 303-452-6611
www.applegategroup.com
