PERMIT #: M- 2006 -073
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: TC1
INSPECTION DATE: November 19, 2014
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was requested by the Operator, Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. as the result of a Surety
Reduction (SR) request as the mine operation has not yet begun. The request was called complete for filing by
the Division on November 3, 2014. Martin Marietta was represented during the inspection by Rusty Cochrane.
The landowner, Mike Drabing was also present. The Sundance Sand and Gravel Resource site is located
approximately six miles south of Fountain, CO off 1 -25.
Inspection:
The permit sign was not displayed as required (see Photo 1). Mr. Cochrane called after the inspection to
notify the Division that the sign had been located and would be re- posted. The missing sign is cited as a
problem on page 1 of this report. The permit boundaries were marked by fences (see Photo 2).
The entire site was driven. No mining related disturbances were observed.
File Review Notes:
• The total permitted area is 745 acres.
• There is a $1,464,697.35 financial warranty (corporate surety) for the site. The surety reduction
request was for a bond reduction to a token $1,000.00 as no disturbance has been initiated. The
Operator and land owner have agreed that no disturbance will take place until the full bond is re-
posted.
• Annual fees and reports are up to date through 2014.
Summary & Recommendations:
1) The Operator will need to send the Division photos of the re- posted permit sign by the Corrective
Action due date shown on page 1.
2) The Division will recommend approval of the surety reduction request. No disturbance has occurred
and the parties involved have agreed to re -post the full bond prior to initiating mining activity.
