IMPACTS OF MINING ON THE YAMPA AND WILLIAMS FORK RIVER AVF' S
Full extraction mining was conducted in the Wise Hill No. 4 Mine under a portion of the northern end of the Williams
Fork River AVE To date, no serious impacts have been noted due to this mining. Since this mining was conducted
prior to MCM or predecessor company's operations, MCM assumes no liability for any potential environmental
impacts caused by this Mine.
No adverse subsidence or related effects have been observed or are anticipated from the development mining that was
completed in the No. 5 or No. 9 mines in the Big Bottom area or under the Williams Fork or Yampa Rivers. This is
based on the consideration that retention of support pillars in the development areas has and will continue to prevent
or minimize any associated subsidence. Given this consideration, no damage to the irrigation ditches that serve the
Big Bottom area has occurred or is anticipated. No surface facilities, except for the ground water monitoring wells,
are located in the Big Bottom area. The limited disturbance area associated with these ground water monitoring wells
is insignificant in comparison to the aerial extent of the Big Bottom AVF area.
Flood irrigation practices may be reestablished on the Williams Fork River AVF on completion of the reclamation
activities. The surface facilities will be removed, suitable soil materials replaced, and the site seeded with the
pastureland (hayland) seed mixture. As discussed in Section 2.05.4, Reclamation Plan, the sloped upland areas will be
seeded with the rangeland/wildlife seed mixture.
No full extraction mining is currently planned or anticipated under either the Yampa or Williams Fork AVF's.
Dependent on future plans and opportunities, the potential exists for further development and mining under either the
Yampa or Williams Fork AVF's, however, additional baseline information and analyses of the potential impacts on
the AVF's will need to be developed and provided as part of a future permit application submittal(s).
2.06.9 AUGERING
MCM does not plan to conduct augering operations in conjunction with its underground mining activities, therefore,
this section is not applicable.
2.06.10 COAL PROCESSING PLANTS AND SUPPORT FACILITIES NOT LOCATED WITHIN
PERMIT AREA
MCM does not have any coal processing plants and/or support facilities not located within the Permit Area.
2.06.11 IN SITU PROCESSING ACTIVITIES
MCM plans no in -situ mining or processing activities in conjunction with the planned underground mining
Operations, therefore, this section is not applicable
TR13 -36 2.06 -4 Revised 06/23/14
