2.04.12 PRIIvIE FARMLAND INVESTIGATION
In order to determine the presence of potential prime farmlands within the planned permit area, Miss Carol Levitt,
Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Area Manager for the Craig, Colorado office, was consulted. BLM indicated
that no soil map units designated as prime farmland by the United States Soil Conservation Service existed in
northwest Colorado. The average annual precipitation in the permit azea is about 14 inches. Areas in which 14 inches
of precipitation or less fall annually are not considered prime farmland. During the review of the EC Silo/ Loadout
Permit application, the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division and the Office of Surface Mining confirmed that
the permit area received about 14 inches of precipitation annually.
A negative determination for the presence of prime farmland was made by CMLRD in their findings document for
the EC No.S and No. 9 Mine Permit (C81-044). Please refer to A Proposed Decision and Findings of
Compliance for the EC Eagle Mines No. 5 and No. 9 (Pg. 60) September 2, 1983. Since the planned No. 6 Mine
will not cause any further disturbance, EC requests a similar determination.
Permit Revision 04-34 2.04-46.1 Revised 7/2/04
