The inspection began at gob pile #2 in the TR -76 combination area
where gob was being dumped, placed and compacted. Dry gob from
the upslope was being pushed down and mixed with the wet gob in
an effort to better achieve compaction. The combination area looks
very good. The contractor believes that they will have bench #3 to
grade before work at gob pile #2 is idled over the winter months. In
order to address a temporary drainage issue discovered between
ditch F -20 and reclaimed gob pile #4, a short term drainage plan has
been developed and submitted to DRMS as MR -166. When ditch F -20
is at final grade, prior to coverfill placement, the flow line of the ditch
will run into the coverfill on the east outslope of gob pile #4, which is
roughly four feet higher than the ditch grade elevation. To keep the
water from ponding in this area, runoff will be directed to temporary
Culvert T -F4, ditch F -22, then to ditch F -9, (which will be temporary
Culvert T -F5). Next season, when coverfill is placed on bench #3, and
ditch F -22 is in it's final configuration, permanent drainage plans will
be established, and temporary culvert T -F4 will be removed.
The top of gob pile #2 is being used as permitted, for a drying area.
Gob is stacked in windrows, and drainage is being managed. There
were no areas of standing water that could be seen.
As noted in DRMS' October 15 and November 5 inspection report,
water from the top of gob pile #2 is not being routed correctly to
Ditch F4. In order to achieve the correct routing of runoff, the
contractor will grade the eastern outslope of gob pile #2 to direct
flow to Ditch F4. Then, a small berm will be created between ditches
F1 & F8 to direct flow to ditch F4 and keep it from running over the
outslope above ditch F -10.
It is anticipated that enough cover is in place at the top edge of bench
#3 (above Ditch F -2 & F11) to begin placing it for final reclamation. No
topsoil will be placed on this bench until next year.
Gob pile #3 looks very good. A substantial amount of gob has been
removed from the west drying area and placed in windrows on top of
gob pile #3. At the toe of the windrows a ditch has been cut to direct
water away from the pile.
On the conveyor corridor, Ditch B -25 has been cut, and directed into
culvert C -26. Culvert C -26 has been located, and the inlet has been
opened up.
Art Etter recently evaluated the bridge over the Fire Mountain Canal
near the wash plant material storage area, and determined it needs
to be brought up to the current Bureau of Reclamation (BOR)
standards. In the near future, he will be preparing a design for
review and approval by BOR. The goal is to have the bridge replaced
by next Spring before water begins flowing in the canal.
2
