I have not reviewed the
Baseline water quality section, but I there are also many outdated methods that need revision in a 2014 table.
The tables still reference Flame photometers and atomic absorption methods for running metals and cations.
ACZ has not run metals via flame AA for over 25 years. Instrumentation has changed dramatically with
modern technology since the document was written. I will be glad to update that list too, but it will have to be
in a few weeks since I am in Alaska all next week.
Colorado's Guideline is well laid out and easy to follow, what I did see when I was going through it initially was
that there were errors in some of the tables in terms of both methods requested as well as incorrect reporting
units. The table needs some updating to reflect what methods and instrumentation are being used today in
modern NELAP Certified laboratories vs. the methods referenced in the dated document. The soil extraction
methods have not changed too much since this document came out.
It does state in the Guidelines footnotes that * Additional methods may be substituted with prior approval from
the Division. ACZ has used these methods for overburden and topsoil for many years and on projects in many
western states.
Below is table 5 and the changes I have made are in Red in terms of methods and or errors I found in the
table for units or incorrect methods requested. ACZ's quote is attached and references equivalent or
updated methods and MDL's for each method.
https: / /mail.googl e.com /m ai I /u/0 / ?ui =2 &i k= e29129fcb5 &view =pt &search= i nbox &th= 149877ae87800886 &si m l= 149877ae87800886 1/4
