Community Descriptions
Vegetation community types were delineated by visually dominant perennial plant species. These
communities are described below. Vegetation communities have been mapped within the entire
permit area, including those areas not proposed for disturbance. A vegetation community map
is presented in Map 2.4.10-1. This map also shows the extended reference areas within the permit
boundary. Maps showing the extended reference area sampling locations are included in the
Vegetation Technical Report (Exhibit 10).
The coniferous forest community is dominated by ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa), Douglas-fir
(Pseudotsuga menZiesii), or a combination of both. This community lies on the southern half and
western edge of the permit area.
The oak/pinyon community is dominated by Gambel oak (Quercus gambe[li) and pinyon pine
(Pinus edulis). This community lies on north- and east-facing slopes on the northern half of the
property. The permit area is dominated by this community.
