STATE OF
COLORADO Berry - DNR, David <david.berry@state.co.us>
South Portal
1 message
Boulay - DNR, Mike <mike.boulay @state.co.us> Tue, Jun 24, 2014 at 2:36 PM
To: David Berry - DNR <david.berry @state.co.us >, Daniel Hernandez - DNR <daniel.hernandez @state.co.us>
Dave
As requested I inspected the South Portal backfill area this morning at approximately 9:00 am. where the
seepage is occurring. The seep on the right side of the backfill has receeded a small amount and the top of the
seep is now below the stake at about 7 feet up from the base of the slope. The flow in to the french drain ditch
has lessened from 36 gpm yesterday to 33 gpm today. The flow around the refuse pile is constant and makes it
all the way to the 009 Outfall where it exits the permit area via a CDOT culvert beneath 1 -70. Tonya Hammond
was arriving as I was heading down to check out the refuse pile and Outfall 009. 1 returned to the portal backfill
with here and reinspected the area. The strata above the backfill and the surrounding terrain show no evidence
of seepage or displacement, The water discharging remains clear. I put together some photos for your reference
with labels to orient you to some of the site features. I will also send the photos by themselves if you want to
zoom in and get a better visual. Let me know if you need anything else. I have a lot of good detailed
photographs if needed.
Mike
Michael P.
