STATE OF Berry - DNR, David <david.berry@state.co.us>
COLORADO
South Portal Backfill Update - 6/21/14
1 message
Tonya Hammond <tonya.snowcap @bresnan.net> Sat, Jun 21, 2014 at 9:49 AM
To: "Berry - DNR, David" <david.berry@state.co.us>
Cc: Greg Shurbet <ggshurbet @aep.com >, Jim Stover <jestover @bresnan.net >, Dan Hernandez
<daniel.hemandez @ state.co.us>, Mike Boulay <mike.boulay @state.co.us>
Good morning everyone -
arrived at SCC South Portal this morning at 7:00 a.m. to monitor the backfill seepage. The seepage flow
continues to be clear with no evidence of cloudiness or sediment. The flow at the portal area was measured with
a flume and the flow is - 49 gpm, which is approximately 8 gpm less than yesterday morning. The minimal
seepage below the retaining wall on the north side of the backfill appears to be the same, no visible increase or
decrease. The highest saturation point on the south side of the backfill does not appear to have increased, so
left the stake in place. No new saturation areas were observed on the backfill or the surrounding area and no
slumping or earth movement was evident. I took a reading of Outfall 016 at 7:55 a.m. and the metered flow is
288.9 gpm. There was no flow observed in Mr. Fontanari's irrigation ditch at 8:45 a.m. Daily monitoring and
updates will continue until further notice. Have a great weekend.
Tonya Hammond
Snowcap Coal Company, Inc.
J. E. Stover & Associates, Inc.
P.O.
