1. Outfall 009 has never discharged this is the point where flow from the French drain would eventually
reach but historically it never has so there is no historic data (See Photo showing discharge location for
the undedrain flow) The mine pool discharges perpetually through Outfall 016. Since 016 began
discharging in April 2002 SCC has reported one exceedance of iron in November 2002, no violation was
issued. There have been no other exceedances of any other effluent limitations for Outfall 016. Outfall
016 will discharge in perpetuity due to continued groundwater inflow to the underground mine
workings. Attached is the latest water quality data for 016 (Discharge Monitoring Report).
2. There should be no large scale discharge on irrigation for the valley. The majority of irrigation water
comes out of the Colorado River at the Government Highline Canal Outtake 4 miles upstream of the
Mine area. There is another outtake 4.5 miles downstream for the City of Palisade. We do not
anticipate any large scale impact to Palisade water. See attached photos of these locations of outtakes .
3. We estimate that 2 cfs were going to the Carey Pond and 1 cfs was flowing in the newly constructed
ditch that runs perpendicular to the existing Fontanari ditch and out into the ground above the South
Portal. This total flow is 3 cfs for 4 weeks. This equals 1,346.4 gallons per minute which after 4 weeks
would be a total cumulative volume of 54,286,848 gallons or 166 acre -feet of water seeping into the
ground.
4. As described in item 2 the mine location where any potential discharge may occur is 4 miles
downstream of the major irrigation outtake for the Grand Valley. If a catastrophic failure occurred there
would be little impact on quantity or quality of available irrigation water.
